Oil is the promoter of today’s economic prosperity as it is required for each and everything from power plants to vehicles. Transport, logistics, marketing, sale and purchase all depend on the provision of oil. The current increasing trend in oil consumption showers doubts on the future of the world economy and a good estimate as to what can happen when oil does dry up is the oil crisis of 1973 when OPECA imposed an oil embargo on western countries by 70%. Imagine this on a global level forever.

There are some deposits that are yet untapped like in the Alaskan region and the Siberian tundra but these reserves are yet years away from becoming viable for usage. In the dwindling scenario of oil deposits and increasing prices of fossil fuels, the demand looks to be turning towards lithium as the next biggest source of fuel. Lithium is a key component in making battery fuel for rechargeable batteries that are essential for use with renewable sources of energy.

Lithium deposits are known to exist in abundance in the South American countries because of which companies such as Toyota and Ford have started purchasing shares in mines that excavate Lithium. The future of automobiles, power plants and everything else shall be greatly influenced by the South American nations however, unlike fossil fuels that are highly concentrated in the Middle East; lithium is well distributed throughout the world with each country having a good reserve to enable usage through recycling. Other sources are under development and may become the oil for 21st century such as Jathorba seeds, bio-fuel made from maize plantations etcetera.
